Formada en los años 90 cuando los hermanos Pedro y Franz Stahl (voz / guitarra y guitarra / voz, respectivamente) se vieron obligados a poner fin a su popular banda Scream cuando el bajista Skeeter Thompson se ausentó sin permiso y el baterista Dave Grohl se unió a la banda de grunge Nirvana Seattle a mitad de camino a través de una gira por Estados Unidos. Los hermanos luego se unieron con el ex Government Issue y el futuro baterista de Burning Airlines Peter Moffett y el ex bajista de Concrete Blonde (hermano de la leyenda de Sub Pop Kurt Bloch de Fastbacks) Al Bloch.
