La banda parte cuando Ed Kowalczyk (voz), Chad Taylor (guitarra), Patrick Dahlheimer (Bajo) y Chad Gracey (Bateria), se unen para participar en una presentacion de los talentos de su misma escuela, luego de esta presentacion la banda se formo como tal y empezaron a usar nombres tales como "Such as First Aid", "Club Fungus", "Paisley Blues", "Action Front" y "Body Odor Boys", primeramente hacian covers pero luego cuando empezaron las creaciones decidieron cambiar su nombre a "Public Affection" y lanzan dos grabaciones, pero posteriormente firman con una discogrfica llamada Radioactive Records y deciden cambiar su nombre a Live, la banda posteriormente comienza a ganar reconocimiento, aumentan las ventas de sus discos y sus shows son cotizados por productoras; la banda actualmente sigue activa.
